Frequently Asked Questions
What does "Shown Railroaded" mean?
This comment, noted on many of our fabric sample swatch labels, identifies the direction you’re viewing the pattern in relation to how it comes off the bolt it’s rolled on.
A fabric can be shown two ways – Railroaded (RR) or Up the Roll (UTR). This refers to the direction that a fabric or pattern runs. Every fabric is one or the other and many can be both (in which case they are referred to as “non-directional”). Unless stated otherwise, Up the Roll is universally assume to be the direction.
Up the roll patterns are those applied in the direction as it appears when it’s unrolled – up/down the bold vertically – with the selvages on the left and right. Railroaded patterns are those applied in the direction as it appears with the selvages on the top and bottom. Fabrics applied in this direction often result in eliminating the requirement of seams on larger items such as sofas and headboards.

You can view them here . Please note that all of our online swatches have been digitally reproduced and dye-lots may vary.
Can I provide my own fabric?
Absolutely! We want you to have the freedom to use the material of your choosing, should you not find what you’re looking for within our extensive offerings. Our dealers/designers are able to provide you with yardage quantities based on your chosen model’s requirements and the specific details of your fabric, or contact us directly for this information.
What is the normal lead time for Vogel products?
Our standard lead-time is approximately 8 weeks from when we receive your order for processing. Lead times may be extended due to unforeseen circumstances beyond our control.
For COM/COL orders, lead time does not begin until all COM/COL is received.
How do I care and clean for my Vogel furniture?
All fabrics are made and woven differently. We recommend that customers clean their upholstery fabrics with a substance that is recommended for that material’s composition. We recommend that you consult us when in doubt.
General cleaning for upholstered furniture should include:
- Loose seat cushions and back pillows – especially those with feather content – should be rotated, flipped and fluffed regularly to maintain their shape and increase their longevity
- Most upholstered fabrics should be brushed and/or vacuumed regularly
How can I become a Vogel furniture retailer?
